The Scarlet Pillows (더 스칼렛 필로우스) [You Smile, I Melt] The Scarlet Pillows return with their second EP, “You Smile, I Melt.” Building on the foundation of their 2019 debut, the band presents four new tracks that blend familiar sounds with some new touches. Lead singer and songwriter Neil Smith’s enrollment in medical university in Europe and drum-mer/producer Chris Denny’s construction of a new recording studio in Florida have introduced lo-gistical challenges and time constraints. In spite of these obstacles, the band has continued to make progress with new music. Maintaining their love for the synth-pop sounds of the 1980s, The Scarlet Pillows have also ven-tured into new musical territories. The EP’s title track evokes a nostalgic, summery sound that nods to the bands of Creation Records, blending the vintage vibe of The Jesus and Mary Chain with a touch of The Beach Boys’ sunny charm. Whereas the final track on the EP, "My World / My Sun," is a dream pop ballad featuring a collaboration with vocalist Sohy Lee once again. The other tracks on the EP retain the new wave influence of their previous work, but this time, Smith’s vocals explore darker tones reminiscent of Ian Curtis. Themes of desolation are more ap-parent in this latest catalog of work from the band.
